Hindustan University staged their Christmas celebrations with grandeur on 16th December 2011. Hindustan Group of Institutions comprising Hindustan University, Hindustan Institution of Engineering and Technology, KCG College of Technology, Hindustan College of Arts and Science, Orient Flight School, National Institution of Management Studies got together to celebrate the festive season and spread the message of Christmas. Dr. Elizabeth Verghese, Chairperson, HGI, Dr. Anand Jacob Verghese, Pro-Chancellor, Hindustan University, Dr. K. Sarukesi, Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Ashok Verghese , Director, Ms. Annie Jacob , Director, KCTECH, Dr. Susan Marthandan, Director, HCAS and other members of the Management, staff and students of HGI were present on the occasion.

The week long celebration was embedded with Choral Competitions and Biblia Quiz opened to the neighboring institutions that included schools, colleges and churches. This was a unique and first attempt by an institution to spread the Message of Christ in the right spirit of brethren among the fellow being and spread the message of love during the festive season.

The grand finale of the Xmas celebration was held at Hindustan University. The stage was decorated with X’Mas tree and well painted backdrop. The programme commenced with a prayer by Rev. Joby Thomas, Chaplain HGI. There was an invocation song “Joy to the world” by the student choir HITS.

Dr. Mrs. Elizabeth Varghese, Chairperson, HGI in her welcome address stated that X’mas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ and the divine spirit should prevail during the celebration with prime thought that , “Jesus is the reason for the season”. She congratulated the staff and students for celebrating X’mas in the true spirit she also mentioned that it was the first time in the city that an institution is conducting X’mas celebration . She applauded the efforts of Prof. Wilfred Chelliah (Hindustan University) who was instrumental in conducting Choral Competition 2011, for all the schools and colleges in Chennai. She also welcomed the Guests, S,.W. Chandrasekhar, Former Principal, Hindustan Bible Institute, Chennai and Rev. Dr. Prakash K. George, Chaplain, Gurukul Lutheran Theological College, Chennai.. She concluded her speech with a message that Jesus came down to the earth to save humanity so that men may achieve salvation. X’mas is the time of sharing caring and also spreading love to brethren.

There was a congregational carol, “O Come all ye faithful” by the student choir HITS, the first Bible Lesson was read by Miss Annie Jacob Varghese, Director KC Tech. Student and staff HCAS rendered devotional hymns rejoicing the birth of Christ.

Dr Susan Marthandan, Director HCAS, read the verses from the Holy Scripture. This was followed by the rendition of carols by staff and students of Hindustan University that created a divine presence in the auditorium. There was an enlightening choreography performance by students of HCAS. Verses from the Holy Scripture was read by Dr. Dolly Varghese, Professor English, Hindustan University.

The rendition of carols by the Hindustan Group of Institution was melodious praising the birth of Christ. S.W Chandrasekran, Former Principal of Hindustan Bible Institution of Chennai (CG), said that purpose of celebration of X’mas is to celebrate the birth of Jesus. He appreciated the message of the Chairperson, “Jesus is the reason, for this season”. He mentioned that the Beauty of the scripture(Isiah-1-7) is that Isaiah the prophet said that humanity will ask this question “God where do you live?” God lives in every human being on the earth. In his message he said that God is willing to come into man and bear all the evils and elevate the human life.

Mementos were presented to the guests by the Chancellor. Wilfred Chelliah, Professor English,( Hindustan University) Choir Conductor, mentioned that the Founder Chairman Dr KCG Varghese had the desire to conduct a choir competition and it was fulfilled by the Chancellor, Dr. Mrs Elizabeth Verghese. He also gave a brief report about the Choral Competition held at Hindustan University. Objective of the Choral Competition was to raise the level of interest in music, among young people. He noticed that they are interested in formal music. The competition was a platform to consolidate the potential of singers. There were three categories (schools, colleges and church) and they took part in the choral competition 2011, at HITS.

There was a special rendering of carols by the winners of the Christmas Choral competition 2011, held at Hindustan University, the audience was mesmerized and the hall was filled with festive spirit of X’mas. The school students of MCC campus sang with true spirit of X’mas joy and four year old Lydion, left the audience spell bound with his drum performance. Women Christian College, the winners in the college category performed on the stage during the X’mas celebration in Hindustan. This was followed by the CSI St. Georges Cathedral youth fellowship, winners in the church category sang “Glory in the highest” in addition to the choral competition. Biblia quiz competition (inter collegiate) was held for staff and students of the 7 institutions of the HGI, this was held on 14th December 2011.

Christmas message

Rev. Dr. Prakash, K. George and Chaplain, Gurukul Lutheran Theological College, Chennai spread the message of Christmas. He said,”Every festival is a time to strengthen our relationship. X’mas is a time we come together and share the spirit of joy and sharing. HGI have shown to us how to celebrate X’mas by bringing several colleges and schools and churches to celebrate X’mas”. He said that the Message of God is with us. Lord is Emmanuel. That is the message. Experience God within our midst.

The challenge of X’mas is through celebrating the presence of human beings around us that’s how we experience the presence of God. A feeling of brethren among us is the greatest message of X’mas festive season.

Calendar 2012 of Hindustan University was released by the Chief Guest and Chancellor, HITS received the first copy.
The celebration ended with a congregational carol “Silent Night” by student choir, HITS.


The vote of thanks was proposed by Rev. Joby Thomas ,Chaplain HGI and the celebration ended with closing prayer and benediction and arrival of Santa Claus

MATLAB

The MATLAB fundamental hands-on course was commenced on 14-9-2010 and 50 engineering students are trained in the first module for 12 days. The students were taught basics of MATLAB like programming, handling graphics, application of Numerical analysis, data export & Import etc.,. Mr.Rajesh Katyal, Scientist and Unit Chief, Center for Wind Energy Technology (C-WET) Chennai was the chief guest. He gave a talk on renewable energy scenario in India and future utilization of renewable energy sources with wind energy as prime. He also narrated various research works being taken by C-WET with respect to wind energy technology. Principal also spoke on that occasion enlisting engineering teachers role in academic institution. The meeting was attended by students and faculty.

"AETHEROS 2011" was the second national level technical symposium organized by Department of Aeronautical Engineering of KCG College of technology. It was conducted on 17th of September 2011 under the guidance of the management and our principal. The event was a grand success due to the efforts of the HOD, symposium coordinator, staff and student committee members.

Dr.U.Chandrasekar, Additional Director and Scientist G, Gas Turbine Reasearh Establishment, Bangalore inaugurated the symposia. The honorable chief guest was welcomed by the reception committee members and other symposia coordinators on his arrival.

A brief introductory meeting in the conference hall was held with the Chief Guest, Principal, Vice Principal and Dean (Academic), HODs and senior faculty members regarding industry-institution interaction. Our vice-principal Ms. Sumathy Boopal explained to the chief guest about the i-cell and e-cell activities of our college and the chief guest appreciated the efforts. The function started at KMC auditorium with the prayer song by our students.

Dr.U.Chandrasekar delivered the presidential address and gave a presentation on rapid prototyping technology applicable for all engineering fields and wished everyone success for the symposia. His speech was igniting and informative. He assured there is no dearth of availability of funds for 'Research Work', provided students comes out with the right proposal. In this context he announced that the Aero department students of KC Tech has been allocated Rs 60,000/- (Rupees sixty thousand) to carry out their research proposal.

A number of events set the event abuzz with loads of action:
Paper Presentation, Technical Quiz, CAD Modeling, Aircrash Investigation, Glider Modeling and Parachute modeling.

The event ended with the valedictory function. The winners of each event were awarded with the cash prizes, gift vouchers and certificates by the chief guest and the judges. The Symposia coordinators lauded the efforts of the students for making this a grand success and wished them good luck for the fore coming future.

The National Level Technical Symposium Techzavest-2K11 was organized by Association of Information Technology of KCG College of Technology on 1st October, 2011. Over 300 students from various Engineering Colleges paricipated in the symposium.

The inaugural session was common for IT, and ECE Symposia. Mr. Subbarayan, HOD/ECE , welcomed the delegates from various Engineering colleges and in his address stressed the importance of such technical symposiums which provide a forum for the student community to share knowledge by way of participating in various events organized like technical paper presentation etc.

Dr. Balakrishnan/Dean (Academic and Research) in his presidential address, stressed the audience for active participation in various technical events to sharpen their skill set. He advised the gathering to make the full use the symposium by participating in various events which provides an opportunity to exhibit their talent.

Mr.Vivekananthamoorthy, HOD/IT briefed on various events organized and thanked committee members from students and staff and all student volunteers and sponsors of the events. In the wake global economic crisis, the need of the hour is cost cutting and quality improvements and innovation for better process for products and services. The technical events are organized for promoting student initiatives to come out with solutions for some of the problems faced by the world today.

The day's events resembled a symphony which is a confluence of two symposia "Reverberations-2K11" by ECE Department and "Techzavest-2K11" by IT Department. The major events organized are ,the technical paper presentation, Quiz, Debugging, Short film making, Web Design, Gaming, How the stuff works, Circuit Debugging, Mock Interview, Circuitrix and Robatics.


The highlights of paper presentation event :

Reverberations-2K11: Twelve papers were selected for presentation out of 81 papers received.

Techzavest-2K11: 12 papers were selected for presentation out of around 200 papers received.

The symposium was inagurated by Mr. M.Saravanan,AVP Polaris Software Lab Pvt Ltd.

Mr Saravanan in his inaugural address said that the students that enough opportunities are available for placement in spite of the global economic crisis. He reiterated that only certain companies and segments are affected by economic slow down in the US. He said that this kind of global crisis is a cyclic process and there is a possibility of revival of world economy to the positive side. He said that India is emerging strong in the global scenario.

There was immense response for paper presentation contest, and 12 papers were selected for presentation from around 200 papers received from various engineering colleges. Mr. Senthil Magesh Ganesh/ HOD/ Computer Science and Engineering, Sairam Institute of Technology was the Chairman of the paper presentation session The papers were of high quality with rich technical content and the topics were highly relevant in addressing challenges and problems faced in the software industry today. The papers covered the following major areas : Artificial Intelligence, IDS(Intrusion Detection Systems), RFID, Cloud Computing.

The chief guest released the Souvenir of the symposium and HOD/IT received it. The Souvenir contained messages from Chair Person, Director &CEO, Director/KCG College of Technology, the Principal, and the HOD. The Souvenir highlighted the schedule of various symposium events , abstracts and details of Technical papers presented, and achievements of students and faculties of IT department during the academic year 2010-11.

There was a video presentation highlighting Techzavest 2K11 symposium events using multimedia effects. It was well received by the audience.

The symposium provided opportunity for the students to show their creativity and talent and to work as a team. The symposium came to an end with the valedictory function which was conducted at the Digital Library. Mr. Senthil Magesh/HOD/(CSE) Sairam Institute of Technology - our Invitee , distributed certificates and cash prizes for all winners in various events.

Symposium "Reverberation-2011"

A Technical Symposium, Reverberation-2K11 was organized by the department of Electronics & Communication Engineering on Saturday the 1st October 2011 at the K M C Auditorium.

The technical symposium was inaugurated by Mr. M.Saravanan, Assistant Vice President, Polaris Software Ltd, Chennai. The function was graced by The Dean – Academic, Dr,P.A.Balakrishnan, Vice-Principal, Dr.Sumathi Poobal in addition to the Head of the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, Prof.V.Subbaroyan and the Head of the Department of Information Technology, Prof.N.Vivekananda Moorthy.

The technical symposium was well attended by participants from TamilNadu & Andhra Pradesh. The function commenced with an Invocation by the College Choir. Prof.V.Subbaroyan HOD - ECE welcomed the gathering while Prof.N.Vivekananda Moorthy, HOD – IT gave a report on the symposium. The highlight of the meeting was the speech given by the Chief Guest Mr.M.Saravanan, enlightening on the expectation of the IT industry from the engineering graduates and the challenges in the current IT scenario. A Souvenir was released on this august occasion and the first copy of the same was received by the Chief Guest. The Inaugural session came to a close with the rending of vote of thanks by Mrs.Kavitha Balamurugan, Assistant Professor of ECE Department.

After a short break for snacks, the Paper Presentation session started at the same venue. The students of all the semesters of ECE Department attended the session. The participants had come from all over Tamil Nadu & Andhra Pradesh and nine interesting papers were presented. These papers were innovative and were based on the latest technology and it was well appreciated by our students. Dr.Sudheer Kumar of Hindustan University and Dr.Sumathi Boopal were the Judges for the event.

The other events conducted during the technical symposium were Robotics, Circuit Debugging, How Stuff Works, Technical Quiz, Mock Interview, Gaming and Circuitrix. All these events were conducted well and there was enthusiastic participation

The well attended function concluded with the Valedictory Function & Prize distribution at the KMC Auditorium. The Technical Symposium gave a wonderful opportunity to learn the latest trends in the field of Electronics & Communication Engineering. It was meticulously planned, well organized and well conducted and it was appreciated by one and all. It gave an excellent opportunity for the students to exhibit their organizing skills. I sincerely thank the Management for the splendid support given to us in organizing this event.

National Seminar On Designing Materials for Language Laboratory

The two-day national seminar was attended by delegates from Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu. One delegate came from Uganda, Africa. The seminar conducted on 14 & 15 October, had many firsts. It was the first one to be organized by the Department of Science and Humanities at KC Tech. At the outset of her Keynote Address the Chief Guest, Dr. Bharathi Harishankar congratulated the organizers for the theme of the seminar. She said that of all the colleges in the State, whether arts and science or engineering, KCG College was the first to conceive the idea of holding a seminar on designing learning materials. One of the delegates from Maharashtra, Dr. Pratibha Mahato, during her feedback at the Valedictory Programme said that she had come all the way from Maharashtra, because this was the first seminar to her knowledge on such a theme.

At the inaugural programme, Dr. Anita Manuel, one of the organizing secretaries, presented the theme of the seminar and welcomed the dignitaries and delegates. Dr. P Balakrishnan, Dean of Academics and Research, and Prof Sivaramakrishna Das, Head of the Science and Humanities Department, felicitated the gathering. The Principal Dr. T Rengaraja delivered the Presidential Address and stressed the importance of designing materials with the rural students in mind. Dr. Albert P Rayan, one of the organizing secretaries, delivered the Vote of Thanks.

The Chief Guest of the Inaugural Programme was Dr. Bharathi Harishankar, Associate Professor of English from the University of Madras. Her stints as Research Associate at IIM Ahmedabad, Principal Project Officer for an Online Rural Education Project at IIT Madras, Coordinator for the Design of Self Learning Materials and Coordinator of the Centre for E-Learning at IDE, Project Leader for a project on Open Education Resources on Soft Skills, funded by International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada, have given her extensive experience in designing teaching-learning resources for language and literature. Author of 4 books and 61 papers, she is also the recipient of numerous awards and honours. Her presentation on designing teaching-learning resources was exhaustive and gave the delegates a number of ideas. The Guest of Honour Mr. Dorai Thodla, CEO of imorph inc USA represented the world of technology. A great teacher and out-of –the box thinker, his presentation was well appreciated by the delegates.

Two workshops were conducted during the course of the day. The first workshop was conducted by Dr. Revathy Viswanathan, BS Abdur Rehman University. The workshop focused on using web resources and tools for preparing laboratory materials designed to enhance listening and speaking skills. The second workshop was conducted by Dr. Sujatha Priyadarshini, Anna University. The workshop focused on developing materials to enhance the reading and writing skills of the target group.

The second day of the seminar began by a presentation made by Dr. Anita Devi, VIT University, Vellore. This was followed by parallel sessions of paper presentations. One of the paper presenters was pleasantly surprised to meet the chief guest of the Valedictory Programme, Ms Mary Kay Seales, for part of her paper was based on the work of Mary Kay Seales. After lunch three papers comprising three different perspectives (literature, technology in the form of google.docs, and popular culture) were presented at the plenary session. The Valedictory Programme began at 2.45 pm. Dr. Anita Manuel welcomed the delegates and summarized the proceedings of the seminar. Dr. T Rengaraja felicitated the gathering. The chief guest Mary Kay Seales is a US Department of State Senior English Language Fellow, as well as the Coordinator of Academic Programs at the University of Washington in Seattle. While delivering the Valedictory Address, she praised the quality of the papers she had listened to earlier. She encouraged the delegates to get their work published and presented each delegate with a package containing copies of language journals, as well as copies of recently published articles of significant interest. Prof Sivaramakrishna Das, HOD of Science & Humanities Department, delivered the Vote of Thanks.

Feedback was collected from the delegates. On the whole the feedback was very positive and some have requested more such seminars.The organizing secretaries Dr. Anita Manuel and Dr. Albert P Rayan thank the management, for without their encouragement and funding the national seminar would never have taken place. They also thank Clement for sponsoring the brochures, folders, and certificates. They would also like to place on record the efforts of Prof Das, HOD S&H, and the members of the Organizing Committee (Ms R Revathy, Ms Sumathy, Ms. Jayalakshmi, Ms Geethumani, Ms Krupa Joseph, Mr. Akhther and Mr. Libin) towards the successful conduct of the two-day national seminar.
