KC Tech, Engineering College, Celebrates Ninth Graduation Day

Innovation and entrepreneurship are two major skills which engineering students should possess in order to become successful engineers, said Dr Elizabeth Verghese, Chairperson, Hindustan Group of Institutions (HGI), on the occasion of the ninth graduation day celebration at KCG College of Technology, Engineering College, a unit of HGI, on Saturday, 16 April 2011. Highlighting the importance of entrepreneurship, Dr Verghese stated “It is unfortunate the higher education system in India produces more professionals but not entrepreneurs”.

Delivering the graduation address, chief guest Anand Sundaresan, CII Chairman, Chennai Zone, called upon the graduands to contribute to the development of the society. “You have successfully completed your studies and have become graduates. Be grateful to all those who contributed to your success and also help others succeed in life. The ultimate aim of education is to serve the humanity.”

Guest of honour Dr G Sekaran, Deputy Director, Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI), also stressed the need for developing engineering students’ innovation skills. “Basic innovation in engineering should be encouraged. Innovative ideas should be turned into technology to benefit the society”.

A total of 375 graduands received their degrees on the occasion. Out of the 375 graduands, 68 students have got distinction and 305 students have obtained first class and one student has got a university rank in the Anna university examinations from KC Tech, Engineering College. Prizes were given away by the chief guest and the guest of honour.

The principal, Dr T Rengaraja, mentioned in his graduation day report that KC Tech, Engineering College, having realized the importance of collaborating with international educational institutions and leading industries, had signed MoUs with reputed universities and core and software companies including City University, London, SJMSOM (IIT-Mumbai), Edulive Infra India Pvt Ltd, Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI), Chennai, Tessolve Services Pvt. Ltd, Infosys, FL Smidth and Ramco Systems.

He also added that the campus placement record at KC Tech, Engineering College, was quite impressive this academic year. “Infosys Technologies recruited 99 of our students. So far, 18 Companies have recruited 170 students and the percentage of placed students is 65%. ”

Stating that innovation is the keyword for engineers in the twenty-first century, Dr T.Rengaraja said, “The college has a very dynamic innovation cell which gives the students an excellent platform to give a shape to their innovative ideas. KC Tech, Engineering College, is the only college from Chennai to receive funds to the tune of Rs 45 lakhs from the Department of Science and Technology (DST) to establish Innovation & Entrepreneurship Development Centre.”

The other dignitaries who were present on the occasion include Mr Anand Jacob Verghese, Director & CEO, Hindustan Group of Institutions, and Ms Annie Jacob, Director, KC Tech, Engineering College.
